The workers, who screen arriving passengers for biosecurity hazards and other prohibited
items, stopped work for four hours at six this morning as part of nation wide action.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), which
employs the quarantine staff, says there have been no delays at the airport.

The strike follows similar two-hour stoppages at airports last week, which caused some
minor delays for travellers.

QLD:Cyclone forces 300 schools to close

BRISBANE, Feb 1 AAP - About 300 schools in Queensland's far north, north and central
regions will be closed from Wednesday as severe tropical cyclone Yasi approaches.

Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson said the safety of students and school
staff was the top priority.

"The decision to close schools and TAFEs in the far north Queensland, north Queensland
and central regions was made on the advice of individual local disaster management groups
and the state disaster management group," Mr Wilson said.

"At this stage schools in the far north Queensland region will be closed from Wednesday
until Friday.

"Schools in the north Queensland and central regions (north of Sarina) will be closed
for at least tomorrow."

Once the threat of Cyclone Yasi has passed, an assessment will be made on a case-by-case
basis when each school can safely reopen, he said.

A full list of closures at State, Catholic and Independent schools and TAFEs can be
found at www.deta.qld.gov.au

The list will be continually updated as new information about Cyclone Yasi becomes available.

Mr Wilson said staff, students, parents and carers should visit the website and listen
to the radio for regular updates.

A number of island schools including Bwgcolman Community School on Palm Island, Magnetic
Island State School and Hamilton Island State School have already closed.

James Cook University said it would close all its campuses and teaching sites in north
Queensland until after Friday.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Andrew Vann, said the decision was taken in the interests
of staff and students' safety.

Sites to be closed include the Cairns and Townsville campuses, Mackay, Mt Isa, Thursday
Island and other research and teaching sites in the expected impact area of Cyclone Yasi.

"We will attempt to keep people up to date with what is happening through our website,
emails and the media," Prof Vann said.

FED:Rural MP confident of govt deal

MELBOURNE, Aug 25 AAP - Independent MP Tony Windsor says he's confident he can help
stitch together a deal to deliver a stable government with his two independent colleagues.

"This thing will work out. It will take time. It might be a week or 10 days but we're
developing a process that will resolve it," he told the Nine Network on Wednesday.

Mr Windsor, along with Rob Oakeshott and Bob Katter, will meet in Canberra on Wednesday
morning ahead of a National Press Club forum at lunchtime.

It's possible they'll then get together with the prime minister and opposition leader
in the afternoon.

Mr Windsor praised both Labor and Liberal governments, especially on economic matters,
and said he gets along well with both sides quite well.

"I think we got through the economic crisis in reasonable shape. I think we went into
it in reasonable shape," he said.

"John Howard had a bit do with it."

Neither Labor nor the coalition has the 76 seats required to form government in its own right.

Mr Windsor stressed that negotiations between the trio and major parties have to be
about delivering stability and move beyond personalities.

"We're faced with a decision now where probably up to six people now have to make a
decision as to what the government is," he said.

"I think we all understand each other. We disagreed on issues."

QLD: Brisbane bridges safe from runaway ships

BRISBANE, April 18 AAP - Brisbane's Gateway Bridge and its soon-to-be-opened duplicate
are protected from being hit by a ship, says Roads Minister Craig Wallace after near miss
involving a cruise ship.

The Pacific Dawn cruise ship was stopped by tug boats just 70 metres shy of bridge
piers last Saturday after losing power on the Brisbane River.

Mr Wallace on Sunday said the bridges had protection panels and arrester islands to
stop boats hitting the piers.

"Construction engineers have confirmed that even an out-of-control cruise ship poses
no threat to Gateway motorists, with new and improved collision prevention," he said.

Mr Wallace said bridge designers had mapped "endless" scenarios, including a runaway
70,000 tonne cruise ship.

"When complete, 80,000 cubic metres of rock will have been distributed around the piers
of the new and existing Gateway bridges, just below the low-tide mark to form the ship
arrester islands," he said.

Mr Wallace said the arrester islands are a barrier preventing even the largest vessels
from coming anywhere near the bridge piers.

The original six-lane Gateway Bridge is 1.6km long and 64.5m high.

Four lanes of the duplicate will open to traffic in late May.

All six southbound lanes on the new bridge will be open by August, and a community
open day will be staged on May 16.

Vic: Three teens hand themselves in over alleged rapes

By Edwina Scott

MELBOURNE, Dec 3 AAP - Police are calling for more education about sexual consent following
a rise in assaults among young people, including an alleged pack-rape of two teenage girls.

Three Melbourne teenagers handed themselves in to police following a public appeal
to track down members of a gang who allegedly raped the girls on the evening of October
24.

The girls were allegedly targeted by a group of up to 10 men unknown to them at the
Broadmeadows railway station, northwest of Melbourne, before being separated and viciously
assaulted at a park in a nearby suburb.

The youths - two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old - fronted local police stations on
Thursday morning before they were taken to St Kilda Road headquarters for interviews with
detectives from the sexual crime squad.

Detective Inspector Glenn Davies said the result came after a public appeal to find
the alleged rapists.

But he stressed police were still hunting several other people believed to have participated
in the assaults and were keen to speak with any witnesses.

Police have obtained CCTV footage of some youths believed to be associated with the attacks.

The assaults - which appear to have been planned - and the ages of those involved are
"very concerning", Det Insp Davies said.

"We'd like to get the message out to young people that they need to be very careful
with issues of consent.

"There has been an increase in sexual assaults involving young people, both young people
as victims and young people as offenders."

While parents and teachers need to educate youths about the seriousness of sexual offences,
it is ultimately offenders who must change their behaviour, he said.

"People should have the right in the community to walk around without being attacked."

NSW: Welfare bodies embrace Rudd's 2020 homeless pledge

Welfare groups have applauded the federal government's plan to halve the number of
homeless in Australia and accommodate all those sleeping rough by 2020 .. as bold .. revolutionary

than 100-thousand people having no home and 16-thousand of them sleeping rough on the

SYDNEY, Aug 13 AAP - The wife of former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh has

In a short statement, Waugh said his wife, Lynette, was making "wonderful progress"

after being released from the Prince of Wales Private Hospital in Sydney.

The mother of three was rushed to hospital nine days ago for an operation to remove
a blood clot caused by a brain haemorrhage.

"We are so happy to release this positive news," he said.

"The last week has certainly been a time of deep emotion and reflection for me.

"You look at your life and it brings all your values into focus. You are simply and
instantly willing to give back any and all achievements to change the circumstances."

Waugh said he and his wife had benefited from the support from their families, close
friends and the public.

"We are indebted to Dr Charlie Teo, and all the staff at the Prince of Wales Private
Hospital for their compassion and professionalism. Thank you," he wrote.

Dr Teo indicated last week that Mrs Waugh, 40, could need years of ongoing tests.

Based on a series of tests since her operation, doctors believe Mrs Waugh, 40, suffered

Vic: Maria Korp will never get the chance to tell her story

Vic: Maria Korp will never get the chance to tell her story

MELBOURNE, Aug 5 AAP - Maria Korp, the loving mother and betrayed wife at the centre
of one of Melbourne's most sensational criminal cases, never had the chance to tell her
story.

Mrs Korp, 50, died in The Alfred hospital just before 2am (AEST) today after being
found unconscious in the boot of her car near the Shrine of Remembrance on February 13.

The mother of two, born Maria Matilde in Portugal on January 14, 1955, was in a vegetative
state and given no hope of recovery when, on July 26, Public Advocate Julian Gardner ruled
that a feeding tube keeping her alive should be removed.

Her first husband, Manual De Gois, died in 1987. They had a daughter Laura in 1978.

Maria Korp met her second husband Joe Korp at work at South Pacific Tyres in Somerton.

The Korps married in 1991 and had a son in 1993.

Their marriage was a troubled one, with affairs, ultimatums and threats.

By September 2004, Mrs Korp confided in her daughter Laura De Gois her suspicion that
her husband was having an affair with a woman by the name of Tania.

Ms De Gois told the police that, on the Monday night before her mother went missing,
she arrived home from work and found a male stranger at the house with her mother and
step-father.

She said that when she entered her mother's room, Maria Korp was wearing knee-high
black boots and a black sleeveless top.

"The first thing I thought was that she looked like a prostitute," Ms De Gois told police.

"It was just not like Mum to dress that way or act in that way.

"I assume that this man was there for sexual reasons."

The family of four lived in a $1.3 million home in outer suburban Mickleham which included
a prayer room, a theatre room, a computer room and a three-car garage.

Maria was a deeply religious woman, but was fond of clairvoyants - one of whom advised
and then abandoned her after charging $150,000.

Mrs Korp had worked as a factory hand at Kayser Hosiery in Coolaroo since December 2003.

Earlier, Ms De Gois described her close relationship with her mother.

"She's like my best friend ... a great listener, always a great support, very warm."

Mrs Korp kept a long-running diary, written in Portuguese, recording her fears and
told a number of friends and colleagues she believed her husband might harm her.

Ms De Gois and her 11-year-old brother issued a statement through their lawyer today
saying they were devastated by the death of their mother.

"Nobody could have prepared us for what has happened," they said. "We are deeply upset."

"We are delighted with our overall performance. Our strong fourth quarter results are reflective of the market's acceptance of our products and serve as a testament to the dedication of our management team and employees," said James Daleen, chairman and chief executive officer. "As our financial and business results demonstrate, we exceeded our stated fourth quarter objectives of continuing momentum in contract awards; further increasing visibility of recurring revenue; and extending our strategic marketing alliances to expand our global delivery capacity and increase our plug and play integration capabilities."

Contract Momentum Drives Record Revenue

During the fourth quarter, Daleen continued its consecutive quarterly growth in new contracts for its BillPlex(R) software solution. These contract awards, including four digital subscriber line (DSL) providers, were in the following customer categories: integrated communications providers, Internet-based data services providers and service bureaus.

"The performance we achieved is a result of the company's expertise and focus on its target market. Once again, we will continue to focus on enhancing our existing market packages and developing new packaged solutions, which we believe will extend our momentum and position as a leader in the industry. Our new contract wins will provide further revenue visibility into future quarters," commented Daleen.

"Among the reasons cited for selecting BillPlex are its flexibility, scalability and open design through industry-standard application programming interfaces, as well as our pre-configured market packages which reduce both implementation time and cost," said Daleen.

Inlogic Acquisition Expands Daleen's Product Offering

On December 16,1999, Daleen Technologies acquired Inlogic Software. This transaction expanded Daleen's leading customer management and billing offering through the addition of Web-enabled customer care and electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP), together with business-to-business gateway solutions. "Key strategic benefits of this acquisition include enhancing our ability to deliver a comprehensive e-business solution; broadening our market opportunities; expanding our research and development, sales and implementation resources; and positioning us to be a leading provider of e-business infrastructure solutions for the digital economy," stated Daleen. "I am also pleased with the progress of our post-integration activities."

This transaction resulted in a one-time charge of $6.3 million related to the write-off of in-process research and development expense for Inlogic. The acquisition, which closed on December 16, 1999, was accounted for as a purchase transaction. All of Inlogic's outstanding shares and options were exchanged for 2.385 million newly-issued shares and options of Daleen, valued at approximately $65 million.

PCB issues Trophy threat.

Provided by 7DAYS.ae

PAKISTAN have bowled a bouncer at the cricket world by saying they will not play in the Champions Trophy if it is moved to another country. The 'mini World Cup' is due to be played in Pakistan from next month but Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand have all expressed reservations about playing there due to security fears. And those fears will not have been eased by the death of 23 people in

a suicide bomb attack in the city of Peshawar on Tuesday. The International Cricket Council reviewed and approved security arrangements in Pakistan last week with ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat saying strict security measures were in place ahead of the September12 start. Official delegations met with players from the four countries in an attempt to address the situation.

And the Pakistan Cricket Board now feel it has done everything possible to allay fears. So much so, that if the tournament was to be taken away from the country the board will feel it has been unfairly treated. "The Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and there are no chances of shifting the event from Pakistan to any other country," blasted acting PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf yesterday.

"If the ICC shifts the Champions Trophy to any other venue, Pakistan will pull out from the event."Sri Lanka has been mooted as an altenative host. Meanwhile, the Pakistan government plans to install an ad-hoc committee to oversee administration of the Pakistan Cricket Board following the resignation ofAa Ashraf earlier this week.Ashraf relinquished his post hours after Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who was facing impeachment by parliament, announced his decision to step down on national TV.
