Qld: Government blocks global threat to arts
The Queensland Government has doubled the state's regional arts budget in a bid to
stop the erosion of culture by globalisation.
Queensland Arts Minister MATT FOLEY says the government's increased the Regional Arts
Development Fund to block the impact of globalisation on Queensland's language, music,
food and cultural diversity.
Mr FOLEY says the destructive impact of mass, imported and often commercialised culture
on the rich but fragile diversity of indigenous cultures has become more threatening with
the development of instant global communication.
The minister was speaking at the launch today of the Asia in Australia: Beyond Orientalism
exhibition at Global Arts Link in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.
